Adventures away from the Classroom

Activities for Schools and Education Providers, Wales

As we return to the 'New Normal' it seems likely that more and more young people will struggle to re-engage with their education provision. Our staff have backgrounds in working with young people with additional needs and emotional behavioural difficulties. Get in touch to see how we could put in a programme to help your students.

Outdoor learning and participation in adventurous activities can have a hugely positive impact on a child’s education and development.

Students find themselves responsible to themselves and to their team.

The element of controlled risk focuses the mind in a way that is hard to achieve inside a classroom.

Students who may struggle in other areas can suddenly find a new outlet in which they excel.

Outdoor education when done well should foster a sense of respect and appreciation of our natural environment.

We always consult our customers on the objective of the activity and we can tailor make sessions and programmes to fit in with your aims. Some ideas could include:

  • Multi Activity Days for classes or year groups

  • Engagement sessions for students struggling with classroom education

  • Skills sessions to gain National Governing Body awards or to work towards PE qualifications

  • Long term programmes as part of an alternative curriculum

  • Team bonding days for new student groups.

Paddle West is fully insured and Licensed through the Adventurous Activities Licencing Authority to deliver a range of activities:

Canoeing and Kayaking

At Paddle West we are passionate about canoeing. We have a fleet of traditional Prospector style canoes that happily take 3 students. We can also raft the boats together to make catamaran style craft. This makes the boats almost uncapsizable and can be paddled by teams of 8.

We can provide sessions in a single location, where students can learn skills and take part in games and exercises to build confidence, team building and have fun! We can also use the craft to go on a half day or full day journey along the Cleddau Estuary. This can be a great way to learn about the wildlife and history on our doorstep.

Raft Building

Work as a team to design and build your own raft! This is an excellent activity for students to hone their communication and cooperation abilities. Some thrive on the the excitement of getting on the water, others overcome fears to get onboard, but all learn the importance of working together to succeed.

Rowing

Our fleet of rowing boats on Castle Pond, Pembroke are a great way of introducing young people to water activities in incredibly stable craft. Learning the skill of rowing the boats alone or working as a crew, this is a fantastic way of getting your young people active with the stunning backdrop of Pembroke Castle. Why not combine this with a trip to the Castle itself?

Archery

Archery is an excellent activity for focusing the mind and building physical awareness and confidence. We can bring archery to a field or hall near you.

Team Building and Initiative Exercises

Paddle West can lay on a range of tasks and challenges for your young people, designed to push their team work and reasoning skills. We can bring these activities in to your school or club.

Bush Craft and Woodland Activities

A real opportunity for students to interact with the natural world around them. From fire lighting and shelter building to woodland art and wide games - everyone loves being in the woods!

We can also work with our partner organisations to provide an even greater range of activities to your school. Get in touch to see what we can do for your students.
